Miniature Schnauzer

How many times have you thought that your home was missing something? Like a sweet little puppy who would grow with your family and fill up that empty spot.  There wasn’t a day that went by that we didn’t have puppies and dogs in my home when I was growing up.

I remember the very first Miniature Schnauzer that made its way to us.  She was purchased by another family member and was suppose to be “their” dog, but this little thing took a liking to me.  She hated when I would leave for school and be ecstatic when I returned.  I fell in love with her and she became my dog!

Over the years, with many Miniature Schnauzers to remember, I have to say they are the best house dog.  They give unconditional love and don’t ask for much in return.  Maybe just some dinner.

From the newborn puppy stage on through all the stages of their life, it was an adventure.  They become protective of the people they live with and are great watch dogs.  Miniature Schnauzers love to be social with people and other pets in the house.

A Miniature Schnauzer’s behavior can be very interesting.  When they are a very young puppy, you aren’t sure about them.  They don’t let on until they become comfortable in their new home.

Within time, you will start to figure out what behavior yours displays.  Some are very extroverted and always on the go, while others have a quieter type demeanor and appear calmer, in most circumstances.

If you are considering getting a puppy, I would definitely say that a Miniature Schnauzer should be at the top of your list.  Along with their great attributes, they shed little, so they are a top choice for dog allergy sufferers!

  1. Oh my! What a great dog are mini schnauzers! I had a really precious one for a few years…..unfortunately he’s gone now due to an accident when he got out of the yard.

I am a dog-owner since FOREVER, and when one of my two finally goes, I will be getting another Mini Schnauzer. Thank You for promoting this wonderful breed of little companion dogs…

    I’ll be back!!

    1. Hi Vicki! That is so cool that you’re planning to get another Mini Schnauzer when the time comes! Please do come back! 🙂

  2. These puppies are soooo cute!! I am glad to hear they are great for those with allergies as several in my family suffer. Now we have an option 🙂

  3. Michelle! I love Schnauzers! Back in Colombia my family has 2 standard size Schnauzers and they are 2 lovely and adorable puppies. With all my traveling, it has turned impossible to have a puppy again. However, I always got hooked by mini Schnauzers! Whenever I feel like settling down in one place, I will definitely look for one, or maybe 2 🙂

    1. Hi Jolie. Miniature Schnauzers usually do not get over 15-18 pounds, so they do stay pretty small. Stop by anytime! 🙂

  4. Hi Michelle. I was looking into buying myself a trusted partner and then I came upon your site. I love dogs and choosing the right one is crucial for me. The Schnauzer looks like a very lovable dog, but what do you do with all the hair around their eyes?

    1. Hi Viljoen. Schnauzers are very lovable dogs and as far as the hair around their eyes, well, they are trimmed and clipped to almost look like a little old man. 🙂 I always take the scissors and clip some of the hair away from right around the eyelids, my Schnauzers seem to like that better!

  5. Hi, Michelle. I think my aunt has adopted a dog which is similar to a Miniature Schnauzer. It isn’t afraid of people and very active. I feel it is funny when it walks. 🙂

    1. Do I think you should get a Miniature Schnauzer, Randy? Of course, I do! ha ha They come in different colors, and maybe Mister would enjoy a new friend! 🙂

  8. That’s such a cute picture of the 3 puppies 🙂 I always wanted a puppy in my teenage years, but my dad would never let me 🙁

However, now I’m older and with my own place, I may consider a dog. Thank You for your post and I will be sure to visit your blog often.

      1. I sure will, Michelle… In fact, I just have 😛 LOL. I have just bookmarked your blog and will pass it on to all my dog loving friends 🙂

  9. Hi Michelle
Thanks for highlighting what a wonderful pet the Mini Schnautzer is. I have a lovely 8 y.o. Labrador/Cocker Spaniel. I would love a companion for her, and when I can afford one, I will definitely consider the Schnautzer. With all those attributes, what more could you want?

    1. Hi Katharina and thanks so much for stopping by. I have always loved the Mini Schnauzer for so many reasons. Hopefully you will be able to get your Cocker Spaniel a friend soon. 🙂

  10. First and foremost, the puppy is absolutely adorable! I more than relate to having a dog that means the absolute world to you. I personally have a Boston Terrier and he is literally like a son to me. My partner in crime everywhere I go and he is truly my best friend. Love the schnauzers, too! My aunt and my ex both had them and they are wonderful dogs. I look forward to reading more! All the best!

  11. Actually I already have three dogs in my house but BOBO is five years old now and she is not well because of her age. Reading your post. sounds like a very smart and make me want to have one.

    1. Thank you for your comments Seth. It’s always hard when you have a middle aged dog not doing well. We went through that a few years ago and it was difficult on the entire family. Best to you!

  12. Great informative article… I am looking to adopt a puppy for a friend, and after reading your unbiased opinions, I’m thinking a Miniature Schnauzer would be a great fit!! Thank you so much, and keep up the great content!!!

  14. Oh my word, that is just the “CUTEST” little thing, I can’t wait to have a little wonder back in my life, actually two of these would just be the perfect fit.

So nice to see this shared, I think I’ve finally made my choice, looks like jack russels will take second place.

    Best wishes.

    1. Hi Ty. Miniature Schnauzers are very cute puppies, just like the Jack Russell’s. I think you would love either, and two would be a perfect number! 🙂

  15. Beautiful! Thanks for a great article. If I had a dog at all I would have a Miniature Schnauzer, but unfortunately my circumstances are not right yet. One day, hopefully soon, things will change and I will be able to get one!

  16. Nice site and interesting read. We had a family dog which was a Labrador. We had him from when he was a pup unfortunately due to his age 16yrs old we lost him just this summer I would love another dog this site has brought back some nice memories me and the family had with our dog

    1. Hi John. It’s always so hard to lose a dog, they become such a part of the family. Hopefully sometime your family can move forward and be able to offer a great home to another who needs a loving home. 🙂

  17. Mini Schnauzers are adorable and such very loyal dogs. My ex gf had one and it was sweet, but protective at the same time. I bookmarked the site and will definitely be back. My dog is like a son to me and you have some awesome info and resources here. All the best!

  18. I would love to get one if my son wasn’t afraid of them maybe 1 day I can convince him and I will definitely will check out the miniature schnauzer. Thanks for the info.

  19. My wife would love a dog, she would go crazy for a Miniature Schnauzer. Unforunately we both still work full time and live in a NYC apartment. I don’t think leaving a dog home alone every day is a great idea.

So, a dog is going to have to wait.
It’s till fun to think about.

  20. Hi Michelle!

Really like your website on aging dogs! Very novel and original idea.We have an aging pug whose very dear to us..Your site is very readable, well-structured and organized with lots and lots of good content.
    Good luck with it.

    1. Thank you Tim! So nice of you to drop by and visit my site. It is hard knowing your dog is aging, but they still have so much to offer, even at that age. Stop by again!

  21. Hi Michelle – What a master stroke putting such a cute picture as your header. I liked the article about Miniature Schnauzers make great pets. As a family we have a Samoyed, who has the most facial expressions I’ve ever seen in a dog.
    Thanks for the post

    1. Hi Mark, so glad you could stop by. Even though we are a “Miniature Schnauzer” family at this time, I love all dogs. They all have their own unique personality and can make the greatest companions. 🙂

  22. Hi Michelle

Unusual looking dog but very cuddly. I guess it would be great around kids. Growing up we had German Shepherds, they were fun until they sank their teeth in you. Thanks for the informative read – Colin

    1. Hi Colin. Dogs are not fun when they sink their sharp teeth into your skin! All dogs need to be trained not to bite, and Schnauzers are no exception. 🙂

      1. Yes, a dog does what a dog does, bark and bite. As humans we have hands and a mouth to communicate, but dogs wills communicate in their own ways.

Bites that we received as kids were playful though, not from an aggressive point.

Like you stated, training is an important part in a dogs development and the love and exercise given to the animal as well.

  23. Michelle,

Thank you for creating this website. I really love the layout and the toys for dogs. Your Miniature Schnauzer is really adorable. My daughter wants a dog soon and I will definitely think about getting a Schnauzer for her to play with. Thank you Michelle for sharing this, very nice!

  24. These dogs always remind me of the great adventures oft Tintin and Snowy. I thought about getting a Schnauzer just because of these movies. I did my research about Schnauzers and I realised that they are actually really great dogs!

    All the best,

  25. Hey Michelle! I found this site quite fascinating, even though, I honestly know very little about Schnauzers. I just have a friend that has been wanting to find information online because she just got one. I’ll be sure to point her here to your blog. Thank you and keep up the awesome work!

  27. A terrific website. You certainly know this special breed and have presented it well. I am more partial to larger breeds but have found that these little guys have the chutzpah of a German Shepard. Above all they, I know the Miniature Schnauzer makes a remarkable companion.

    Thanks for the great information.

  28. You site is awesome and very good looking. I just love it. In the future very soon my little daughter want to have Schnauzer. Please keep doing it…
    See you soon…
